ABOUT SYDNEY
Sydney grew up in Meaford, Ontario, a small town on the shores of Georgian Bay. With only one high school serving the area, Sydney often found herself in her parent’s classrooms. She attributes her love of reading, writing and exploring the world (through fiction and otherwise) to them.
Sydney moved to Toronto in 2009 where she received an English degree and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Toronto, participating in two academic exchanges to Ireland and Germany. Sydney currently works for the Ontario Government as a Senior Policy Analyst, and lives in Toronto with her husband and three young boys.
Sydney’s debut speculative fiction novel is called The Sleepers. It grapples with a future defined by climate change, classism, power and love. She was motivated to write the book after having children, contemplating what the future would be like for them, and wanting to tell a story that would entertain and inspire readers to promote an equitable path forward.
Some of Sydney’s favourite authors, who have undoubtedly influenced her work, include Margaret Atwood, Kim Stanley Robertson, Barbara Kingsolver, Octavia E. Butler, Emily St. John Mandel, and many more.
